County Donegal covers an area of 4,841 kmē in the northwest of the Republic of Ireland and belongs to the province of Ulster along with the six counties of Northern Ireland. The Irish name of the county means 'the fort of the foreigners' and may be seen with reference to the Vikings. Lifford is the county's capital, however, the largest city is Letterkenny. Donegal is bordered by a wonderful Atlantic coastline with beautiful beaches warmed by a Gulf Stream that provides a temperate climate year round. Arranmore and Tory Island belong to county Donegal and are inhabited. Visitors to Donegal should not miss the second largest sea cliffs in Europe at Slieve League. The northernmost point of Ireland that is located on the popular Inishowen Peninsula. The Bundoran Waterworld is one of the attractions a family should not miss.
